Why Should Northway Irrigation install my irrigation system?
We have been installing and servicing irrigation systems since 1986. We maintain all insurance, bonding and licensure. We are members if the Irrigation Association (IA) and Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association (MNLA) with certifications in irrigation contracting and irrigation auditing. We are up to date on our low-voltage license, which is a requirement in the state of Minnesota. As one of the senior irrigation companies in this market, there isn't much we haven't experienced in our industry.

Why do I need a backflow prevention device? Is it required by law?
There are two main types of backflow devices that are used for irrigation. The main one is called a vacuum breaker (PVB), but different water service applications call for the use of a reduced pressure assembly (RPZ). Either backflow assembly is required by law in the state of Minnesota because they prevent non-potable water from entering back into the home water lines. Some cities require annual testing of RPZs.

Will the installation process destroy my lawn?
All but a few connections with regard to the construction of your lawn irrigation system will be below ground. Therefore, yes, there will be damage to your existing lawn by way of the construction process. At Northway, we use a vibratory plow in many instances so as to minimize the damage. Once the system has been built however, the healing process begins almost immediately. With the new irrigation system, you have the ability to put the adequate amount of water on the turf to help with this. In most cases, customers can expect their lawn to return to normal in 6 to 8 weeks depending on the existing conditions and quality of turf.

Will water alone keep my lawn green?
While water is a major factor in the health of a particular landscape, it should in no way be considered a solution. Annual and monthly maintenance items like fertilizing, aerating, weed control, pet clean-up, edging, etc. are critical in maintaining a healthy lawn and landscape. Also, the amount of sun exposure, tree coverage and soil type play an important role in the well-being of your landscape.

What is drip irrigation? What are the benefits?
Drip irrigation is sub surface irrigation involving the controlled delivery of water directly to individual plants through a network of piping and emitters. It is actually the most efficient way to irrigate because any water that ?drips? through the piping is applied directly to the plant root system. Since the most practical application is under the mulch or rock and a shrub bed, evaporation and wind do not play any role in the irrigation process.

What is a rain sensor? Is it required by law?
Simply put, a rain sensor is a device that is attached to the outside of your home or building and is electrically connected to you irrigation system controller. During a rainfall, the sensor will collect rain. When the preset amount of water is collected, the sensor will send a signal to the controller and shut it down. As of 2005, state law requires all newly installed irrigation systems be fitted with a rain shutdown device.

How do I adjust the sprinkler heads?
All irrigation heads are different, however, your irrigation system installation packet contains all the necessary materials to set and adjust heads, adjust the controller, etc. You can find this information on our website as well. Look under SUPPORT.

Since all of the electrical connections in the field are low voltage, we need to carry this license take care of the irrigation system. It basically covers the homeowner if there is ever an electrical problem relating to the irrigation system.
