The foundation for this company was laid back in the mid-1970's, when Rick Walter, who owned a well known snowmobile shop in Circle Pines called Northway Sports and Tom Skiba, who operated a sod supply company out of his home in Ham Lake, merged their companies and talents in to what was then called Northway Landscaping. At the time, Rick was getting into the nursery business, and called an old high school friend, Tom, to gauge his interest in starting a landscape company. They each agreed that this was the step they needed to take.

The idea worked, and the two began developing a reputation as being a reliable and trustworthy company to do business with. They started to develop a solid customer base and their name in landscaping began to grow throughout the north metro.

Over time, as the customer base grew, Rick and Tom began to get inquiries regarding irrigation. Around 1984, lawn irrigation was becoming more affordable, and interest became more common. After a handful of customers asked about irrigation, the two owners decided to check out some distributors who dealt in irrigation supply. Convinced they could install irrigation systems, they purchased some parts.

In 1986, Northway Irrigation was incorporated. They only installed 7 or 8 systems that first year, but knew at that time that this was the direction they needed to go. Some of the customers from that first year are still Northway customers today, which is a tribute to the time, dedication, and care that each customer receives when hiring Northway to install or service their irrigation system. Each customer is treated as if they were Northway’s only customer. We give each individual customer and their irrigation system the attention they need to achieve a finished product that satisfies the homeowner. We give the homeowner peace of mind knowing that when our crew or service tech leaves that house, the lawn will be green and healthy in no time.

The 2010 season will officially mark our 24th year servicing the Twin Cities metro area and Western Wisconsin. We look forward to serving you soon.
